“Joanna Brouk is a pioneer of early electronic music with work that exists at the nexus between ambient, new age, drone, and classical minimalism –stark in its simplicity, lush in its expanse.” – Ryan Boyle

Listen to the exhilarating, uplifting piece, “Lifting Off” from Joanna’s album HEARING MUSIC. Inspired by the experience of flying, this piece is dedicated to the accomplishment of the impossible and was featured in a production of Peter Pan in which the children joyfully lift off for the first time. One note rises into another and another creating an arpeggio that layers over itself, moving higher and higher into the cosmos.

Joanna’s Scores

Music of the Spheres

All music has its source in silence. It rises and fall from that infinite source. By “tuning in” to one’s own silence, one can hear the music of the spheres, the hum of the universe, and the songs of the cosmos. Everyone finds tremendous appeal in this kind of music because it rises from so fundamental a source that its structure is parallel to the structure of life and that of the cosmos as a whole. That is why Pythagoras wrote that music and the heavenly bodies are governed by the same mathematical laws.

“When I was younger, I began to hear music.  I did not yet know how to score …  so I drew geometric shapes of the sounds I was hearing. My walls were covered with my compositions” – Joanna Brouk
